Looking to travel Africa? 🌍 Here's the breakdown of countries across the continent accepting British travelers. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Last Updated: September 1st, 2020

The Realness
: The team at Tastemakers prides ourselves in being in the know. We are connected to governments, travel authorities, and cultural icons across the Continent. We also work with our curators to keep up to date on what the tourist experience looks like in every country our travelers explore. With that said, we are not health experts. The UK Government "advises against non-essential international travel, except to countries and territories listed". Your decision to travel in these times is up to you. If you decide to travel again, we hope you use the best possible information (psst - we recommend the Africa CDC) to make sure you do so as safely as possible. And whenever you do decide to travel, we'll be here with the insider information to (safely) connect you to the culture, the Continent, and the Diaspora.

With Covid-19 dragging on worldwide, we know even your longest term travel plans to get out into the world are being disrupted. No matter what your approach is to making new plans, we're here to help.

To those staying in the UK for the next few months: we get it and we're with you. If you're still looking to explore your journey to the Continent from home, you can catch us at The Thread, Tastemakers monthly-ish series of conversations unpacking the potential for Pan-Africanism in a post-"Year of Return" moment for the culture.

And to those planning that next trip to the continent, here are destinations accepting U.K. travelers. We also keep a real-time database of all open borders across Africa. πŸ‘‰ check it here in the journal.

1. Ghana

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡πŸ™ŒGhana reopened its borders to international flights on September 1st, 2020. The details are still being finalized, but flights, borders, and visas are now available. Whether you are ready to relive the Year of Return or join the (socially-distanced) party this December, you might want to start planning your trip - we know we are.

Status for U.K. Travelers: Open (details being finalized)

Restrictions: Valid negative COVID-19 test upon arrival; More information here

Insider Level: πŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸ

2. Senegal

Senegal has now reopened for tourism, with international flights starting as of July, 2020. If you're looking for some low-key beach vibes, and socially-distant adventure, then Touba and Lac Rose might be the next move. Oh, et rafraîchis ton français πŸ˜‰. For those looking to brush up on their French (like I just had to), you'll find good company with Tastemakers members who are working on a lot of interesting things, including language pods.

Status for U.K. Travelers: Open, with restrictions

Restrictions: Valid negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before departure; Some airlines aren't taking U.K travelers; More information here

Insider Level: πŸŒŸπŸŒŸ

3. Tunisia

Tunisia's borders are back open for tourists from some countries. U.K. travelers make the cut, providing you quarantine for a week. Once you're there, there's plenty to do at a distance - from ruins, to markets, to socially-distanced city hikes at Parc du Belvédère.

Status for U.K. Travelers: Open, with quarantine

Restrictions: Valid negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before departure; Mandatory 7-day or 14-day quarantine; More information here

4. Rwanda

As of August 1st, Rwanda is open for all tourists. Testing before and after your flight is mandatory, but there is no mandatory quarantine. If Kigali is too crowded, you can catch some paradise by planning a trek out to Gisenyi.

Status for U.K. Travelers: Open, with restrictions

Restrictions: Valid negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before departure; COVID-19 test upon arrival (and quarantine at your hotel until the results come back ~8hours); More information here

Insider Level: πŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸ

Wherever your travel plans take you: the Continent, your local park, or your couch πŸ˜†, we'll be here with travel information, inspiration, and community. If you don't already, you can follow us on the gram for weekly doses of travel. And if you're looking to connect across the Diaspora without airplanes, the Tastemakers Membership might be a good place to start.

Until we can all convene again - explore, enjoy, and stay safe βœŒοΈ
