At Tastemakers, we strive to build community everywhere we go. Through the excitement, adventure, and curiosity of travel, we connect communities, drive passion, and create sustainable change that values both the visitor and the person who calls Africa home.
Our partner organization, Birthright AFRICA, inspires youth and young adults of African descent ages 13 - 30 to explore their own cultural roots and legacy of innovation within the United States and select nations in Africa as a birthright. Through travel and project-based learning in collaboration with our partners, we aim to instill pride, enhance confidence, and spark the creativity of our Scholars to fulfill their leadership and entrepreneurial aspirations.
Only 2% of US managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs are of African descent. To address this gap in diversity and talent, Birthright AFRICA is creating the next generation of global leaders and entrepreneurs that are proud of their African heritage, confident in their innovative aspirations and connected to the African continent. Over the past three years, Birthright AFRICA has been committed to providing a free educational trip to Africa for every youth and young adult of African descent in the United States.
Birthright AFRICA is commemorating the Year of Return in Ghana 2019 marking 400 years since of the first ship of enslaved Africans arrived to Virginia in 1619.
